Prompt Intelligence

The study of which user prompts most frequently trigger a brand recommendation or citation in AI responses.

What is Prompt Intelligence?

Prompt intelligence is the analysis layer that connects prompts to outcomes. Given a tracked set of prompts and the answers engines return, it asks: for which questions does the brand get recommended, for which does a competitor win, and what do the winning and losing prompts have in common? It is the AI-search counterpart of keyword research, except the unit is a natural-language question and the result is a brand's presence in an answer rather than a ranking.

A prompt intelligence workflow starts with discovering the prompts that matter, drawn from sales conversations, support tickets, community threads, search query data and the follow-up questions engines themselves suggest. Those prompts are grouped into topics and intents, run across engines on a schedule, and the responses are parsed for brand mentions, position, sentiment and citations. The output is a map of the brand's territory: strong topics, weak topics, and prompts where a small content change could flip the answer.

The analysis also reveals how engines interpret prompts. Two questions a marketer considers identical may retrieve different sources and name different brands, which often points to a missing page, an ambiguous product description or a competitor owning a specific phrasing.

Why it matters for AI search

Not every prompt is worth winning. Prompt intelligence shows where visibility already exists, where it is missing, and where effort is most likely to pay off, so content and PR work can be prioritised by business impact rather than by guesswork. It also gives teams the vocabulary buyers actually use with assistants, which feeds directly into page titles, headings, FAQs and the structure of comparison content.

Frequently asked questions

Where do tracked prompts come from?+

Sales and support conversations, community forums, search query reports, engine-suggested follow-ups, and competitor positioning. The goal is realistic buyer phrasing across awareness, comparison and purchase intents.

How is prompt intelligence different from keyword research?+

Keyword research measures search volume for short strings and targets rankings. Prompt intelligence works with full natural-language questions, measures whether a brand is named or cited in the answer, and is run per AI engine.
